This manuscript aims at introducing energy harvesting through a short review, finally focusing on magnetic harvesters and, in particular, to those based on soft magnetic materials. The discussion is devoted to bulk industrial devices, neglecting microsystems. The magnetic harvesters have better structural features than competitors. They can generate adequate power density by more than 500 microW/cm3 up to tens of mW/cm3 in the frequency range of interest and, in particular, at the power frequency. They may be future protagonists into the growing market.

Abstract

This manuscript aims at introducing energy harvesting through a short review, finally focusing on magnetic harvesters and, in particular, to those based on soft magnetic materials. The discussion is devoted to bulk industrial devices, neglecting microsystems. The magnetic harvesters have better structural features than competitors. They can generate adequate power density by more than 500 microW/cm3 up to tens of mW/cm3 in the frequency range of interest and, in particular, at the power frequency. They may be future protagonists into the growing market.
