To advance the understanding of the reliability of obstacle-type pressure probes for skin friction measurements in three-dimensional (3-D) flow, omnidirectional triangular block probes have been tested. The probes have been calibrated in a channel flow. Details of the calibration tunnel and of the calibration procedure are given. Results obtained by testing different probes having different geometrical characteristics are shown. An application to a complex 3-D shear flow is presented.

Abstract

To advance the understanding of the reliability of obstacle-type pressure probes for skin friction measurements in three-dimensional (3-D) flow, omnidirectional triangular block probes have been tested. The probes have been calibrated in a channel flow. Details of the calibration tunnel and of the calibration procedure are given. Results obtained by testing different probes having different geometrical characteristics are shown. An application to a complex 3-D shear flow is presented.
