Testing laboratories have several options available to demonstrate their competence. One of these is undoubtedly the successful participation to an interlaboratory comparison. Proficiency tests are interlaboratory comparisons specifically designed to evaluate participant performance against pre-established criteria. Proficiency tests are usually carried out through circulating a sample (the measurand) among the participants. The sample realizes an adequately stable quantity value. The value of the measurand is disclosed to the participants only at the end of the proficiency test.

Abstract

Testing laboratories have several options available to demonstrate their competence. One of these is undoubtedly the successful participation to an interlaboratory comparison. Proficiency tests are interlaboratory comparisons specifically designed to evaluate participant performance against pre-established criteria. Proficiency tests are usually carried out through circulating a sample (the measurand) among the participants. The sample realizes an adequately stable quantity value. The value of the measurand is disclosed to the participants only at the end of the proficiency test.
